You may or may not notice by looking at my ingredient pics, but I mostly shop at Aldi! (I LOVE that store…another post for another day.) However, this weekend I went exploring at another grocery store. This one caters to an international clientele.
Hometown Supermarket is definitely a place I need to visit again! I know I looked crazy just walking down each aisle looking at all the items, but I STILL know I missed several things. This store mainly has products from Asian countries, so there were several packages I couldn’t read.
There’s something incredibly humbling about not being able to read the language on signs or labels…especially when you’re in your own town. I thought about this experience from two perspectives though. First, I really need to start back studying more languages. Second, and more importantly, how AWESOME is it that stores like this exist in this city!? Imagine moving from Japan to Birmingham, Alabama and wanting some of the comforts of home. This store appears to offer a large variety of snacks, drinks, produce, dry goods, frozen and fresh meats/seafood to cater to a diverse market.
Since this was my first visit, I mostly browsed without a list or purpose. I did pick up a few random items though.
Look, I did say random…but I plan to use everything I purchased. Clearly, I’ve already eaten some wafers! I’ll be sure to let you know when I prepare something with my other items.
If you’re in the Birmingham area, let me know if you want to join me on my next visit. I still need to try Mr. Chen’s restaurant!
